BASIX and Social Equity

BASIX has a direct link to assisting social equity in Australia according to Andy Marlow from Envirotecture. He sees positive outcomes in reducing ongoing costs for the most disadvantaged as data from 2014 shows that 18 percent of approved single dwellings for the most disadvantaged, achieved a NatHERS rating of eight or higher.

A statistic of concern though is the 53 percent of new 2014 NSW dwellings that would not meet the National Construction Code 6 Stars. He sees raising the minimum standards for building performance as important to improve this issue.
